The Boys of Fall

This week has been a busy one with lots of activities.  Last weekend was the second to last CU game at Folsom Field.  Brad had to work so my mom went and had a very good time.  CU won to top it off and they had an AMAZING flyover for Veterans Day. As I am sure all of you know this year has been one of controversy with the head coach Dan Hawkins.  Well after a large upset in Kansas there was no choice but to fire him.  It was a great decision as ever since he came into town 5 years ago he really never got the team or the fans into the game.  Not to mention the large conflict of interest of his son being the #1 quarterback with out earning the position.  Anyways all animosity aside he exited very graciously and was a class act. Coach Hawkins we wont miss you but we wish you the best.

Sunday we meet up with John and Maggie for a day at Bakers Street Bar and Pub.  This is our favorite place to be on Sunday's to watch the games.  Brad and Maggie had to play nice as Maggie is a Kansas City fan and Brad is the biggest Bronco's fan.  We all had a great time and the Bronco's won, not only did they win they dominated.  For those of you who haven't been to Baker's Street check out their link.  They have great food and good drink deals.  It is defiantly the place to be on Sundays for the games.

After the game Brad and John decided to have a celebratory cigar.  Note this is the first time Brad has ever had a cigar and is not a smoker.  Needless to say it was quite funny.  They say they are "men" and this is a "man" thing.  Good thing the Bronco's don't win often, I think it will be a once a year thing!!!

Monday night we went to a Pub in Boulder called Twisted Pine. They had a chili cook off where you could sample all of the entries.  There were three categories, Green, Red and Twisted.  It was a fun local activity and we had a good time.  Side note: The Monday night football game against the Eagles and Redskins was my deciding factor to winning the football pool I participate in for the second time this year.  Well it didn't end well as the Redskins got their butts kicked.  No extra Christmas money for Alisha :(.

Friday night Brad and I decided to participate in a local Buff tradition, The Pearl Street Stampede.  All the CU Buffs players ride on a old fire engine down Pearl Street accompanied by the cheerleaders and the marching band.  It was really neat and got us all in the spirit for the last home game of the season.  Yesterday was a game to remember, and the Buffs did a great job.  We had a good time tailgating with my company before the game (weekly tradition) and then enjoying another amazing flyover and the great game.  The Buffs showed up as a unified time and kicked butt, it was great fun to see them go out with such a great win.  GO BUFFS!!!!

I am sad college football games at home are over, but looking forward to our season tickets next year with us being in the Pac12.  It should be a season to remember.

To leave where it all started with "The Boys of Fall" Lyrics from the talented Kenny Chesney.

"When I feel that chill, smell that fresh cut grass/
I'm back in my helmet, cleats and shoulder pads/
Standing in the huddle listening to the call/
Fans going crazy for the boys of fall/
They didn't let just anybody in that club/
Took every ounce of heart and sweat and blood/
To get to wear those game day jerseys down the hall/
Kings of the school man, we're the boys of fall/

(Chorus:)
Well it's turn and face the Stars and Stripes/
It's fighting back them butterflies/
It's call it in the air, alright yes sir we want the ball/
And it's knocking heads and talking trash/
It's slinging mud and dirt and grass/
It's I got your number, I got your back when your back's against the wall/
You mess with one man you got us all/
The boys of fall/

In little towns like mine that's all they got/
Newspaper clippings fill the coffee shops/
The old men will always think they know it all/
Young girls will dream about the boys of fall/ "
